The Housing and Homelessness Committee ensures that our district is livable and welcoming to residents, prospective residents, and those who need support.
The Committee monitors and reviews the services provided by the Department of Housing, Preservation, and Development. It also tracks policies and formulates resolutions on affordable housing, rent control, rent stabilization, federal Section 8 vouchers, the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption Law, and Mitchell-Lama Housing. Furthermore, the Committee monitors services provided by the Department of Homeless Services, and meets with other public and private providers of services for the homeless, including (but not limited to) the Coalition for the Homeless, the East Side Alliance, the Grand Central BID, the 30th Street Menās Shelter, and Urban Pathways.
